Jesus said something that most of us read right past.

“He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

John 14:12 KJV

Greater works. Not smaller. Not slower. Greater.

He meant it. And yet we have a whole generation of believers who love Jesus, serve Jesus, and work hard for Jesus, but we take forever to see anything happen. We pray for twenty minutes. We pray for an hour. We come back next week and pray again.

Now look at Jesus.

Jesus Didn’t Take Forever

Jesus gently touches a blind man's face as witnesses watch in a Galilean village.

Every time Jesus healed someone, it happened in the moment. He didn’t pray for half an hour. He didn’t schedule a follow-up. He spoke, and it was done.

There is only one time in Scripture where I see Jesus pray for someone twice. It’s the blind man in Bethsaida (Mark 8:22-25). Jesus touched his eyes and asked what he saw. The man said, “I see men as trees, walking.” He had received his miracle partially. So Jesus laid His hands on him again, and the man saw every person clearly.

That’s it. One time. And even then, the man walked away whole.

Over and over in the Gospels, Jesus prayed and people were healed. Sometimes He laid hands on them one by one. But many times the Bible simply says He healed them all. Everyone who was sick. Instantly.

So here is my question. Why do we make so many excuses for healing?

The Real Reason

The answer is simple. Unbelief.

We don’t always believe what the Word says. Not because we don’t love God, but because our natural mind is wired to resist the things of the Spirit. Paul said it plainly: “The carnal mind is enmity against God” (Romans 8:7).

So we keep doing things the natural way. We try to reason our way into the supernatural. But the things of the Spirit are foreign to the natural mind. They always have been.

If you try to reach the supernatural with natural methods, you will never get there. That’s not condemnation. That’s just the truth.

New York to L.A.

A jet flies above golden clouds while a traveler walks along a winding mountain road below.

Think about it like this.

You need to get from New York to Los Angeles. You have options. You can walk. You can ride a bicycle. You can drive. You can take a train. Or you can get on a jet.

Which one is fastest? You already know. The jet. And not just a commercial plane. A jet flying at Mach 1 or Mach 2 gets you there in a few hours. Walking could take months.

The supernatural works the same way. What takes us hours, days, weeks, and months to receive with our natural mind, Jesus did in an instant. He cast out demons. He raised the dead. He healed the sick.

And then He turned to us and said, “Go and do the same.” (Matthew 10:8)

A Word to Pastors

Pastor, I know you want to see your church grow. I want that for you too.

But real growth doesn’t come from the best lights, the best band, or the best coffee. If our people are not bringing healing to the sick and doing the work of the ministry, we will see some growth. But most of it will be believers moving from one church to another.

That’s not growth. That’s musical chairs.

Look at the Book of Acts. The church exploded. Why? Because the Holy Spirit came upon ordinary people. They believed the Word for exactly what it said. And they saw the power of God in manifestation.

“Many wonders and signs were done by the apostles... And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

Acts 2:43, 47 KJV

Signs first. Growth followed.

Until we see the power of God in manifestation, we will keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Step Out of the Circus

Here’s what I’ve noticed. Sometimes we build walls. We guard the sheep inside. We keep everybody comfortable. We don’t send anybody out. We don’t raise anybody up. We just keep the same routine going, week after week.

I call it the religious circus. Lots of activity. Lots of noise. Not much power.

Jesus didn’t call us to build walls and keep the sheep in. He gave us a Great Commission to take the Word out.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”

Luke 4:18 KJV

That same Spirit lives in you.

People Are Waiting

Neighbors gather around an older woman in compassionate prayer outside a home.

Right now, people are living their lives without hope. Without grace. Without healing. Without Jesus.

Where is the hope? Where is the healing? Where is the freedom?

It’s in the church. Not locked inside four walls, but carried out into the streets, the workplaces, the neighborhoods, and the homes. Healing, liberty, and freedom were always meant to go out through us.

What Did You Do With What He Gave You?

One day each of us will stand before the Lord. I believe He will ask two questions.

What did you do with the gifts I placed in you?

What did you do with the assignment I gave you?

I want to stand there with something to show Him. I want you to have something to show Him too.

So if you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, this is your invitation. Believe what Jesus said. Receive it. Go do it. Then train someone else to do it.

And if you’re already doing the work, take courage. Keep going. Keep moving. Keep healing the sick. Keep sharing the Gospel. Don’t let anyone talk you out of the supernatural.

“He that winneth souls is wise.”

Proverbs 11:30 KJV

Stop settling for the natural. Greater works are waiting.
