Promises for the Businessman and Businesswoman Who Trust God

Entrepreneurship has its seasons. There are times of increase and times when you're wondering where the next opportunity will come from. There are contracts that close and others that disappear. There are unexpected expenses, difficult reports, employees, customers, decisions, and pressures.

But Psalm 112 gives the righteous entrepreneur something stronger than circumstances: promises to meditate on.

It begins with the foundation:

“Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.” — Psalm 112:1

Everything that follows flows from a life that honors God and delights in His Word.

Then look at what God says concerning your family:

“His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.” — Psalm 112:2

Your vision doesn't have to stop with you. Your children and the generations that follow can be blessed and become mighty in the land. You are building beyond yourself.

Then comes one of the great prosperity promises:

“Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.” — Psalm 112:3

Don't apologize for believing God's Word. Wealth and riches can be in your house while righteousness remains there too. Prosperity doesn't have to pull you away from God. It can become a resource through which you serve, give, build, employ, and bless others.

And what happens when business gets dark?

“Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.” — Psalm 112:4

Light dawns in the darkness.

You may not see the answer today. You may be facing a financial problem, a business decision, a lost client, or an unexpected setback. Darkness doesn't mean the story is over. Keep seeking God. Light is coming.

That's an entrepreneur's verse!

Be generous, but also manage your affairs with wisdom. Faith doesn't eliminate good stewardship. Conduct your business with discernment.

Then comes stability:

“Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.” — Psalm 112:6

Markets can move. Customers can move. Economies can move. Opportunities can move.

But you don't have to be moved with them.

And then comes one of my favorites:

“He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.” — Psalm 112:7

Bad news may come.

But you don't have to be afraid of bad news.

Your confidence isn't ultimately in the report. Your heart is fixed because your trust is in the Lord.

Verse 8 continues:

“His heart is established, he shall not be afraid…” — Psalm 112:8

That's how I want you conducting business: with an established heart.

And finally:

“He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.” — Psalm 112:9

You've given. You've helped people. You've used what God placed in your hands to bless others.

Keep doing it.

Your righteousness endures. Your horn, biblically a picture of strength and honor, is exalted.

It Is Well With You

Psalm 112 is not promising that the righteous entrepreneur never encounters difficulty. In fact, the Psalm assumes that darkness and bad reports can come.

The promise is that they don't have the final word.

So whatever you're facing today, whether financial pressure, discouragement, uncertainty, a difficult business season, or something that simply hasn't worked the way you expected, don't allow a temporary circumstance to become your permanent meditation.

Paul reminds us:

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” — 2 Corinthians 4:17

This is temporary.

Go back to the promises.

Meditate on them.

Your generation is blessed.
Wealth and riches are in your house.
Light arises for you in darkness.
It is well with you as you deal generously.
You will not be moved.
You don't have to fear bad news.
Your heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
Your righteousness endures.
Your horn is exalted with honor.

Whatever comes against you, don't quit. Don't surrender your thinking to the pressure.

Let God's promises become bigger in your mind than the circumstances surrounding you.

You have promises. Meditate on them. Believe them. Walk in them. And keep building.
